Ja rule.... um i'm afraid your mistaken, they are not rappers, that is not rap music. Next time you are in a record store and you think of picking up the latest Nelly album, dont, glance over to some real hip-hop and chances are you are going to see a Blackalicious album. Pick that up, buy it, or steal it I don't give a shit as long as you get to hear it, and i'm telling you as soon as you do the word classic will work its way across your smiling lips. Now onto the review: Track 1: Searching. The intro track. This opening lulls you into the album, with its soft piano and classy jazz background and the somewhat ghostly chanting of the word NIA. Track 2: The fabulous ones. Does exactley what it says on the tin. Proves Chief Xcel as a premium beat maker and Gift of gab as one of if not the best lyricist. A very good track. Track 3: Do this my way. The extremly talented Lyrics born lends his vocal talents to this track which meld perfectly with Gabs rapid fire delivery. This tracks premise is a simple one, express the love they feel for their chosen profession. Track 4: Deception. One of my favourite cuts on the album. Gab tells the story of a rapper named Cisco who becomes an overnight success and gains respect for his rhymes as well as an obscene amount of money. But the money corupts his mind leaving his rhymes hollow and his career on the downward slope. Track 5: A to G. A alphabetical slaughter style track where Gab spits rhymes that start with certain letters. Interesting and enjoyable to say the least. Track 6: Cliff hanger. Almost spoken word rhyming for gab on this track and Chief Xcel lays down an ever changing beat which keeps the listener entertained throughout. Track 7: Shallow days. I play this track at least once every day, it is in my opinion the nicest piece on the album. It contains lyrics that could and very well might make your ear drums bleed. Gab weaves a tale about the state of hip-hop, comparing it and contrasting it with the realitys of real life. "I said 'I'm all about protecting mine, but neglecting minds for getting left behind. why don't you change your environment? He said this is all I know plus my fam is all i got i can't go. I said you gotta make it for the fams. Damn he said, man didn't make the ghetto, the ghetto made the man." Now thats a hot line, and when you consider thats one of the weaker lines on the track, it proves Gabs abilty to lyrically mind fuck. Now the album goes on with 11 more amazing tracks, which I will be reviewing later in the week."
