It's the best album last year though, so it's worth picking up..."

[B]Common-Be[/B] Lonnie Rasheed Lynn…or as we know him better as Common, but out what is arguably his best work ever this past summer in the form of “Be”. Now not only is it arguably his best effort, but could be suggested by many that this CD ranks among hip hop classics. It was a stong come back from the failure which we all through in the trash (Electric Circus), and in many ppls opinions, took off where Like Water for Chocolate finished. This CD was to define and punctuate Common’s rap career, and he did just that. There is no reason to discuss the soulful beats on every track, I just have to say a few words to describe them--Kanye West at his best! [B] Be(intro)[/B] As the bass begins to sting, and as Kanye starts to bring other instruments in…Com begins to open and set the stage for what is to come on this CD. it’s a Chi-town tribute, a state of hip-hop, a state of America, and how Com is gonna change the world through his daughter. “Cuz the Present is a gift, and I Just Wanna BE” [B]The Corner[/B] The first single of the CD. Com the backpack rapper takes it to where it all started for him, and where many ppl can relate to the most. This song also has Kanye on the hook. [I][B]Common[/B]-Memories on corners with the fours & the moors [pronounced foes and moes] Walk to the store for the rose talking straightforward to hoes Got uncles that smoke it some put blow up they nose To cope with they lows the wind is cold & it blows In they socks & they souls holding they rolls Corners leave souls opened & closed hoping for more With nowhere to go rolling in droves They shoot the wrong way cause they ain't knowing they goal The streets ain't safe cause they ain't knowing he code [B]Kanye[/B]-I wish I could give ya this feeling I wish I could give ya this feeling On the corners, robbing, killing, dying Just to make a living[/I] [B]Go[/B] Again, another track that features Kanye as the hook man. The idea of this song is that Common is reminiscing of a special girl in which he used to love, loves, or wants to love. But what the song does not tell you, is how he came up with this concept. Kanye, John Mayer, and Common had attended the movie “Ray” and came up with the concept of going to a place that makes you happiest, and Mr. Mayer suggested that hes happiest around the girl he loves….and thus “Go” was produced in a matter of hours. [B]Faithful[/B] Common puts women on a pedastel on this song…and at the same time takes them down. He contemplates love for women and why he loves them. And at the same time, whats gone wrong with some of his relationships. But proclaimes he wants to be faithful in the end. [I][B]Verse1[/B]-was rollin' around, in my mind it occurred What if God was a her? Would I treat her the same? Would I still be runnin' game on her? In what type of ways would I want her? Would I want her for her mind or her heavenly body? Couldn't be out gettin' bogus with someone so godly If I was wit' her would I still be wantin' my ex? The lies, the greed, the weed, the sex [B]Verse2[/B]-He had a good gig, a wife, a kid, a decent home One reason or another couldn't find peace at home She asked, "Why do men always have to stray?" He said, "I'm bad, not as bad as Eric Benet" "I used to take 'em out to eat but they wasn't really eatin' Mighta got a little head but I wasn't really cheatin'" It's hard when your lady don't believe what you say And what you did in the past you gotta live with today[/I] ^^^isn’t it so true ppl!! [B]Testify[/B] Common gets to tell us a little story of a deceptive women…or as he refers to her. “the Queenpin”. The story begins with a mans wife supporting him, and talking the struggle she lived through just to be with him. And in the end, as her man is convicted she begins to laugh……and I wont ruin the end of the story for you! [B]Love Is[/B] What is Love? Common tries to come up with some simple answers. He discusses the places where love can be found. And asks why everyone cant show love openly. Why a young man cant show love without ruining his “image” or “rep”. Prolly one of the weaker tracks on the CD. [B]Chi-City[/B] Yup Chi-Town stand up! Com talks a little street talk for his fellow windy city residents. He talks about how Electric Circus was just not understood, and says hes here to take Jay-Z’s place in the industry. [I][B]Verse1[/B]-rap with the passion of Christ, nigga cross me Took it outta space and niggas thought they lost me I'm back like a chiropract wit b-boy survival rap This ain't '94 Joe we can't go back The game need a makeover My man retired, I'ma take over [B]Verse2[/B]-What you rappin' for to get fame or get rich I slap a nigga like you And tell him Rick James bitch Witcha Hollywood stories on porches We poli hood stories on who became rich And whatever light they hit, we wanna hit the same switch You didn't know where to aim it, you still remain bitch[/I] [B]The Food[/B] This song was featured on the infamous Dave Chappelle Show and features Mr. West again. The song is fantastic. Is lyrically strong, as all the songs on the CD but maybe its just the presence of Kanye that takes it to another level. The 2 work so well together on the whole CD. [I][B]Verse2[/B]-It's all good in the hood, like raps and gems Throwbacks and Timbs, blacks and rims Whether on ball courts, attires of all sorts We never fall short, wit us it's Our Force like And 1's Some waves, some air guns, the days of the fair one is over for Cats is colder than four below, wit self I go toe to toe Wondering if it's for the art or for the doe Though I know to grow a - gotta learn to let go Though I know the doe I got to bring back to the ghetto Arrows on Terot cards pointing to the grind Po' livin in more prisons, pointing to my mind, shine the light up Clench my fists tight, holding the right up[/I] ^^^Its really hard to describe this song other than its really stong! [B]Real People[/B] Com gets on the level of real ppl and just being humble. Talks about some real aspects of life. Discussing the situations that surrond him are the strongest features of Commons Cd…which is suiting considering its called Be. Maybe its that Kanye produced the CD that every beat is soulful and on point! But the fact of the matter is, you listen to this CD because Commons on it doing what he does best! Speaking about his life, telling some stories, talking about some street things without glorifying it, but rather talks about it just for the sake of what is going on in the world right now. Touches on everything from politics to love to drugs to his daughter. This is a well rounded CD made by 2 ppl who just love making music! They made this CD great by pushing each other musically and as ppl!
